The client approached SPACE with a clear vision of creating a bespoke Art Deco-inspired residence after finding that volume builders were unable to accommodate the level of architectural character and individuality sought. They were seeking a more personal, collaborative design experience and expert guidance through the complexities of council approvals and project delivery.
Heritageoverlay, unique architectural form, significant tree
Through close collaboration with council heritage advisors and the client, the design successfully blended heritage character with a contemporary Art Deco vision. Careful planning achieved a distinctive architectural outcome while respecting the significant tree, with the rear addition seamlessly extending the Art Deco language throughout the home.
Prospect sits in the City of Prospect. A heritage overlay and a significant tree are the two constraints that most often send people to a volume builder and then send them back again. Art Deco is an unusual brief for these streets, and it is exactly the kind of character a standard plan cannot deliver.
Every volume builder told us what we couldn’t have. Space Design asked what we actually wanted, then worked with the heritage advisors to get our Art Deco home approved.
